Poker Rooms in Pennsylvania Rake in $5 Million in July 2016

It was a good month for Pennsylvania based poker rooms as they raked up a whooping $4.96 million in July 2016. As compared to last year at the same time, the rake generated was $4.97 million but with lesser poker tables. Poker rooms had an added advantage of 2 poker tables this year but the rake has not gone up considerably.
Pennsylvania has a total of 10 poker rooms with 226 poker tables. Other than these, there are brick and mortar casinos operating in the vicinities. The numbers including the rake are released by the state casino gambling regulators.
Parx Casino which has 46 poker tables was the major player in the growth of revenue with $1.37 million for the month of July 2016. The poker rooms have collectively paid a state tax of $600,000 in the month of July. The poker market in Pennsylvania is growing with revenues of $58.4 million in 2015/16 fiscal year as compared to $56.5 million for the year 2014/15. It is believed to touch $62 million for the year 2016/17.
Though Pennsylvania is a bigger state with more poker rooms than New Jersey, both states showed nearly identical revenue for the month of July 2016. The casinos in Atlantic City raked $5 million but that also included state licensed online poker websites which is estimated to be around $2 million. Both New Jersey and Maryland raked up revenues of up to $3 million in live poker market. Pennsylvania will be closing the hearing on legalization of online poker by December 2016.
